Chicago's Joan of Arc is never reliant on the status quo. In the course of their history, the band's recorded output has elicited not only critical praise through challenging the norms of traditional songwriting, but also significant backlash from reviewers who became increasingly confused by the band's eclectic output.
A short history of the band: Joan Of Arc began in 1996 in the aftermath of the highly influential Cap'n Jazz (recently re-released on LP via Jade Tree). JOA spent a 6-year stint with Jade Tree, releasing their first 5 albums with the label, ranging from the post-rocking subtle electronics of "Portable Model Of" to the nearly song-less existentialism of "The Gap". After 2003's masterful "So Much Staying Alive and Lovelessness", and its more adventurous counterpart "In Rape Fantasy and Terror Sex We Trust" (the latter released by Caliphone's Perishable Records), Joan of Arc migrated to the Polyvinyl label. 2004-2009 would see the release of "Joan of Arc, Dick Cheney, Mark Twain", "Eventually, All at Once" (released on Record Label), "Boo! Human", and "Flowers".
In September of 2010 Joyful Noise will be re-releasing all 10 of Joan Of Arc's full-length albums on cassette w/ digital download. Five 7"s, two EPs, one live album, two colabs, and one b-sides collection aside; this is the complete catalog of JOA as of 2010.
