Two Indianapolis gems here in one unexpected combination... Science metalists Gogglesphere team up with pals the Nancy School for this split single. Both tracks are the forerunners to new full-length albums set to be released in the coming months. This vinyl showcases the incredible talent and originality which, against all odds, is still alive and well in modern rock music.
You need something to die for is an adequate example of the more recent Gogglesphere material. The group has moved from the gritty off the wall sounds of their debut Babies in Hell to a more focused and, at times, more subtle sound. While listening to this track you might not even notice that four different time signatures are being played at once. The music is highly intelligent and powerfully conceptual without losing its appeal to old-fashioned thrashers and head-bangers. You don't have to be smart to like Gogglesphere anymore than you have to be smart to be the victim of a nuclear holocaust. You just have to be in the right place at the right time.
Midshindeep is of the same caliber with respect to the debut Nancy School album Paideia. The instrumentation is a cut above anything being produced in their slightly more conventional genre. However, this band is not what they seem. There sound can be deceivingly commercial for about 2.3 bars until they compensate with 6 or 7 transitional fragments of stellar musicianship. If you think they sound like Incubus you have missed the point.
