Abner Trio "The Giant Crushes You" Released Today!
    August 24, 2010

Nearly 3 years in the making, Abner Trio's second full length is finally here! Available in LP, Cassette, and Digital (no CDs this time folks), The Giant Crushes You is hands-down the most accomplished documentation of their mathy, artsy, honest, and all-around original blend of indie-rock. Abner Trio have created an album that triangulates exactness, rawness and beauty - building upon their patented sound which has drawn a select demographic of dorky music listeners into obsessive fandom.

The album was recorded and mixed by Mike Bridavsky at Russian Recording, mastered and cut to vinyl by John Golden (Melvins, Sonic Youth, etc), and pressed on LP by RTI (perhaps the best vinyl manufacturer in the world).

Joyful Noise to release of Montreal's "False Priest" on cassette w/ digital
    August 18, 2010

Needless to say, we at JNR are huge of Montreal fans. Few modern bands have provided such a consistent stream of artistically ground-breaking yet remarkably accessible records. That is why today we are honored to announce that Joyful Noise will be releasing the new album from of Montreal, titled False Priest, on cassette w/ digital download.

From the 1996 Elephant 6 debut "Cherry Peel", to the breakthrough "Sunlandic Twins" to the instant classic "Hissing Fauna, Are You The Destroyer?"- of Montreal is one of the most important bands making music today. For their 10th album, "False Priest", Kevin Barnes teamed up with Grammy-nominated producer Jon Brion (Kanye West, Fiona Apple), turned up the bass, brought back the organic instruments, and created a self-professed masterpiece.

September 14th will see the release of "False Priest" on cassette alongside Polyvinyl's releases of the LP, CD, and other "non-traditional" formats.

The cassette edition of "False Priest" is limited to 500 hand-numbered copies. The artwork features a 12-panel booklet containing paintings and re-interpretations of paintings by David Barnes, Nina Barnes, and Kevin Barnes. The tape is pressed on a badass red cassette, matching the artwork. High-quality MP3s and FLAC audio are included.

CRITICS EXPRESS LOVE / CONFUSION OVER HI RED CENTER'S ASSEMBLE
    March 11, 2009

Lately many critics have expressed their love and/or confusion over Hi Red Center's new album Assemble...

Pitchfork says the band is "at their hyper-experimental best"; Time Out New York says the band "features enough brainy harmonies and jagged rhythms to please the egghead set, but it also plays just fine as a left-field pop record"; Amplifier Magazine says it is "mind-blowing", Prefix simply states "It's not supposed to be this way", and Have You Heard has turned to abusing dextramethorphan in a misguided attempt to grasp the album.

What is clear is that this album requires some concentration. But Pitchfork and others agree, the sacrifice is worth the payoff.

Also, for a limited time Pitchfork is streaming the entire album. Go listen to the whole album and read the review: pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/12764-assemble
