Sometimes, an album falls in your midst that not only resonates with your exact time and place, but also compels you to share it with the world. Springtime's self-titled debut is one of those albums. 

Gareth Liddiard (Tropical Fuck Storm / The Drones), Jim White (Dirty Three / Xylouris White) and Chris Abrahams (The Necks) are Springtime—a new endeavor that is as much a tonal experiment as it is a meditation on modern-day absurdity. Their forthcoming album uses free jazz, apocalyptic lyricism crafted alongside renowned Irish poet Ian Duhig, and improvisation to craft austere portraits of a world paralyzed by shellshock. 

As we brace ourselves for another wintertime hellscape, this album is an ideal companion. Maybe within these rants, raves, and melodies we may find an answer to the question, “What fresh hell will this new season bring?”

Just what we needed amidst a year-plus of global pandemonium: A new album from Tropical Fuck Storm!

Most of us have lived some inner Tropical Fuck Storm over this past year and a half. Even for a band that’s made a career out of crafting songs attuned to political and social crisis, there was a new bleak in the air for Tropical Fuck Storm, what the band calls “give-a-fuck fatigue.” The third album from the avant-punk quad—aptly titled Deep States—mines familiar ground as well as new cultural terrains, while digging deeper into the subjective state of contemporary panic. 

As the signs of latest crisis subside, and the dull ache of awareness with it, Deep States will be here to remind us that there is no foreseeable end to human folly or to the creativity that resists it. Over the past few years, we’ve all heard the noise in our own heads. Tropical Fuck Storm has made music of it.

Announcing: Tropical Fuck Storm 'Braindrops'

Australia’s off-kilter breed of avant-psych weirdos, Tropical Fuck Storm, have just announced their second studio album Braindrops.


Braindrops is the follow up album to Tropical Fuck Storm's 2018 debut A Laughing Death In Meatspace. Based in the Australian outback—where they are free to make as much noise as they like—the album was written and recorded in their home 'Dodgy Brothers Studio' in regional Victoria.


“I've invented fake news as a genre of music,” Liddiard states on the new album. Braindrops overflows with compelling sounds and visions that reflect the often dark and fractured reality of life on planet Earth as we hurtle toward environmental and social decay at a frighteningly rapid clip.

A recurring theme on the album concerns the various ways the human brain can be manipulated and controlled for exploitative gain. Braindrops is a jarring and exhilarating experience, full of pulsating grooves, black humor, dissonant experimentation, and unsettling dystopian plotlines—a truly unrelenting work, from an unrelenting musical ensemble.
