Jad Fair Jackets from Stumptown Printers
The jackets for the Jad Fair “Artist In Residence” series were letterpress printed by Stumptown, a worker cooperative printshop based in Portland, OR.
“Contemporary letterpress printing is essentially a relief printing process. If you can imagine a linoleum block or woodcut, where the raised area is the surface that is inked, and other areas are cut away to create the negative space – you are envisioning a simplified explanation of letterpress printing…” (link)
I was thrilled to finally commission a print project with them, having seen their trademark Arigato Pak CD packaging making the rounds for years. Check out their site for some beautiful examples of work, and more details on their process and philosophy.
