CRITICS EXPRESS LOVE / CONFUSION OVER HI RED CENTER’S ASSEMBLE
Lately many critics have expressed their love and/or confusion over Hi Red Center‘s new album Assemble…
Pitchfork says the band is “at their hyper-experimental best”; Time Out New York says the band “features enough brainy harmonies and jagged rhythms to please the egghead set, but it also plays just fine as a left-field pop record”; Amplifier Magazine says it is “mind-blowing”, Prefix simply states “It’s not supposed to be this way”, and Have You Heard has turned to abusing dextramethorphan in a misguided attempt to grasp the album.
What is clear is that this album requires some concentration. But Pitchfork and others agree, the sacrifice is worth the payoff.
